FAQ's How can I help my wrestler make their weight class? Please don’t do anything extreme (i.e. wear sweat suits, exercise, starvation, or dietary medicine/supplements, etc.) to help your wrestler make weight. Most athletes if they just eat a normal sized portion of food the night before (in other words they cut out the second and third helpings) and they are careful of how much water they drink on the day of a weigh-in should be just fine. Don’t have them eat on the morning of the competition until after weigh-ins, they will have time to eat that morning after the weigh-ins. If you have a scale at home that can be super helpful to help them manage their weight. Most athletes that go to bed no more than a pound and a quarter (1.25) over their weight class will be just fine by the next morning.
What if they don’t make weight? Ultimately don't stress about it and let the wrestler weigh-in at a natural body weight and if they have to wrestle up a weight class it is not a big deal, in my mind.
What does my wrestler need to wrestle?
Mandatory Items:
4 Practice T-Shirts.
4 Practice Shorts.
Wrestling Shoes (Practices and competitions.)
Headgear (I do have several headgear that can be checked out to wrestlers. Wear to practices and competitions.)
Wrestling Uniforms (Competitions only, the school will provide these.)
Mouth Guards (Practices and competitions, if your wrestlers has braces a double sided mouth guard is required).
Strongly Recommended Items
Knee Pads (Wrestling knee pads or any kind of knee sleeve is just fine.)
An Athletic Cup/Protection.
You Might Also Consider:
Elbow sleeves with pads.
Any gear that gets checked out to wrestlers is expected to be returned at their final competition. For each wrestler when the date of their last competition may vary, we will do our best to communicate this with the wrestler.
Any gear that is checked out and then is not returned or lost will have a fee that gets placed on the students accounts. Below are the amounts that will be fined. Headgear: $100 Uniforms: $250
Below are locations that sell wrestling gear, not all locations will have all items. I usually purchase items on the internet for a “one-stop” shopping experience. Buying online can be challenging though if the item shows up and it doesn’t fit!
